The **Cartea de identitate a vehiculului** (CIV) is the equivalent of the title, the **Certificat de înmatriculare** of the registration certificate. Registration tax and transfer duty are still payable, though. The data on the CIV and the Certificat de înmatriculare must match the bilingual sales contract exactly — if they differ, the registry office may send the case back. ## How much does it cost to register a car from Romania? For an average 90 kW, five-year-old passenger car the **basic official cost** **150,000 – 210,000 Ft** , depending on whether there is a valid foreign inspection. These are basic official fees. Registration needs both in the original. **Is an ITP certificate needed?** Yes — if it is valid and provable, the registration procedure is enough.
