Two: **VPID customs identifier** application, without which no customs procedure can start. Three: **Authority inspection is mandatory** — for a vehicle from a third country, registration administration is not enough; an individual approval procedure is required. A CoC is usually needed here too, because with differing standards it is what proves EU compliance. - **Service fee (with customs clearance)** — 59.990 Ft - **VPID application** — 19.990 Ft - **Vehicle authority inspection** — mandatory For the USA, Canada and Dubai the process is entirely individual — please enquire. ## Country-by-country notes Every third country has its own document system and its own typical pitfalls. | Country | Document | What to watch out for | | --- | --- | --- | | USA | Certificate of Title, Bill of Sale | a CoC is nearly always needed; the miles-to-kilometres conversion and EU-compliant lamps are also examined | | United Kingdom | V5C logbook, MOT certificate | a third country since Brexit, so customs and an authority inspection. On a right-hand-drive vehicle the lamps also need converting | | Switzerland | Fahrzeugausweis, Typenschein | not an EU member, a customs procedure is required. For returning residents an allowance is possible — it must be requested in advance | | Norway | Vognkort | An EEA member but not the EU — a customs procedure is required. Many electric cars come from here, and for those the CoC is essential | | United Arab Emirates | Vehicle Registration Card, Export Certificate | without an export certificate the vehicle cannot be imported. Because of the climate, the technical condition deserves a separate check | ## How does it work? 01 - **Applying for a VPID customs identifier** — This is the first step, because no customs procedure can start without it. Both individuals and companies need it. The fee is 19,990 Ft. 02 - **Customs procedure and VAT** — Settling the duty and VAT assessed on the customs value, with proof of release into free circulation — this is included in the 59,990 Ft service fee. 03 - **CoC — only for the European version** — There is no CoC for American and third-country vehicles: it only exists for models built for the European market with EU type approval, and it cannot be obtained later. If the vehicle is a European version, our fee for obtaining it is 39,990 Ft and the manufacturer’s cost is EUR 100–180. For a passenger car 22,950–27,000 Ft by displacement (22,950 Ft for fully electric); the certificate is valid for 60 days. 05 - **Authority inspection — not optional here** — A vehicle from a third country needs a full technical inspection: 57,300 Ft for a passenger car, 47,700 Ft for electric, 64,000 Ft for all-wheel drive — these are the totals from the 2026 authority table. A valid foreign inspection does not substitute for it here. We cannot provide a priority inspection site for such a vehicle. 06 - **Tax office: registration tax** — The same kW and emission-class table as for an EU vehicle. The depreciation allowance applies here too. 07 - **Motor liability cover and registry office** — Insurance on the VIN, then registration certificate, vehicle title and Hungarian plate. The **customs duty and VAT are not included** , because these depend on the vehicle’s customs value — in a dutiable case the burden is 39.7%. For a non-EU vehicle always choose the “Full technical inspection” procedure, because the authority inspection is mandatory here. If the vehicle **non-European version** (USA, Canada, Dubai) the calculator gives no total: such cases are priced individually. These are basic official fees. On top come our service fee and, for a priority case, its fee. ## Two-step route from a third country Cars from a third country must first be registered in another EU country — **to the Czech Republic or Germany** —, and only then can we work with it at home. The exception is anyone granted a C-01 returning-resident duty and VAT exemption. We undertake first European registration in Germany and the Czech Republic **from EUR 2,500** . For a quote, send us the purchase invoice or the contract — we will estimate from that. **Why a valid American inspection is not enough** Because the Hungarian authority only registers on the basis of EU type approval or a domestic official inspection. For a vehicle from a third country the authority inspection is therefore mandatory, whatever the foreign papers say. **Can a right-hand-drive car be registered?** Yes, the law does not rule it out. EU compliance of the lighting must be proven, though, which often means replacing lamps. It is worth budgeting for that before you buy. **Is there a customs allowance for returning residents?** Under certain conditions, yes — you must have owned the vehicle for a set period and the change of residence must be proven. It has to be requested in advance, before the customs procedure starts; it cannot be claimed retrospectively. **How long does the whole process take?** Usually several weeks, because of the customs procedure and obtaining the CoC. This category is not suited to express handling — official and manufacturer lead times cannot be shortened. **Do you help with transport home too?** Yes.
