What does classic-car administration cost?
The items below are the fees of our full-service administration. Official costs — inspection fee, transfer duty, plate — are set by the authority on top of these; our calculator works those out.
The pre-check fee is paid on site at the Hungarian Automobile Club and is not on our invoice. For the other items we give an itemised quote before the mandate.
These are basic official fees. On top come our service fee and, for a priority case, its fee.
American and UK vehicles can be classics too
With the paid customs decision in hand, a US or British vehicle can come in its original state too — without lamp or other conversions. Origin verification has to be carried out, and once the result is in we can start the process.
The classic-car route is especially attractive here: There is no registration tax for classics, so an American car over 30 years old may be feasible too — and the classic plate adds value.
In one day, at the Hungarian Automobile Club
The Hungarian Automobile Club carries out the classic-car process, including museum classification and inspection on a given day.
We register classic vehicles from these regions too.
Classic vehicles are exempt from registration tax.
Paying the transfer duty is mandatory.
These differ from standard plate prices and can only be requested at the central government office.

Priority handling is now available for classic cars too. In the summer a 2–3 month wait is common, but with us it can come up within one or two weeks — with luck, in one or two days.

How does the classic (OT) procedure work?
Before the classic inspection there is a mandatory pre-check at the Hungarian Automobile Club. A slot can only be requested once the faults have been assessed there.
The process starts once you engage us. That is when we review the papers and the condition.
We check whether the vehicle and its papers are suitable for the classic procedure. Only then do we book a slot.
We arrange the pre-check appointment after the screening. Its fee is 29,990 Ft, payable on site. This is where the vehicle’s faults are assessed.
Once the faults are assessed we can request a classic-car inspection slot.
What to know before the classic-car inspection
Only a vehicle over 30 years old can go for classic inspection. There is no exception — a younger vehicle cannot be classified as a museum piece.
A vehicle already on Hungarian papers must have classic-car motor liability cover by the time it goes to the classic inspection.
For an imported vehicle it is enough to take out classic-car cover after the inspection, before the government office visit.
The inspection payment barely differs between a Hungarian and a foreign vehicle. The real difference is the timing of the compulsory insurance.
On many cars over 30 years old this saves a lot. That can make even a US car feasible — and the classic plate adds value on top.
