What to watch out for when importing a Lithuanian car
Lithuania is an EU member; there is no customs procedure. The document is the Registracijos liudijimas (registration certificate), which also proves ownership. Lithuania is one of Europe’s largest used-car distributors: a great many vehicles arrive here from North America, often as salvage repairs. Before buying, a VIN check and clarifying the damage history are not optional here but a basic requirement.
Which documents are needed for a car imported from Lithuania?

Is customs duty payable?
No, if the vehicle is already in free circulation in the EU: Lithuania is an EU member, so there is no customs procedure for a car in free circulation. Registration tax and transfer duty must still be paid, though.
For a salvage-repaired or US-version vehicle the procedure is individual: there is usually no CoC, and technical compliance has to be proven separately. Such a car is only worth buying once we have talked this through beforehand.
How much does it cost to register a car from Lithuania?
For an average 90 kW, five-year-old passenger car the basic official cost 150,000 – 210,000 Ft , depending on whether there is a valid foreign inspection.

Why a Lithuanian used car is risky
Because Lithuania is a large resale market: many vehicles arrive from North America, often as salvage repairs. Registration itself is no harder, but the vehicle’s history must be clarified.
How can I check the damage history?
From the VIN. Send it to us and we will check before you buy — so it does not come out afterwards that the car is US-spec or badly damaged.
Is there a separate Lithuanian vehicle title?
There is none. The Registracijos liudijimas serves as both the registration certificate and the proof of ownership.
