What to watch out for when importing a Polish car
Poland is an EU member; there is no customs procedure. The document is the dowód rejestracyjny (registration certificate), which is also stamped with the inspection validity. If a karta pojazdu (vehicle card) exists for the vehicle, ask for that too. The Polish market is heavily import-based, so the date of first registration and the history must always be checked.

Is customs duty payable?
No. Poland is an EU member, so there is no customs procedure. Registration tax and transfer duty are still payable, though.
The depreciation of the Hungarian registration tax follows the first registration. If the Polish car was previously German or Dutch, the original date governs — which is often more favourable than the year of Polish registration.
How much does it cost to register a car from Poland?
For an average 90 kW, five-year-old passenger car the basic official cost 150,000 – 210,000 Ft , depending on whether there is a valid foreign inspection.

What is a karta pojazdu?
The Polish vehicle card, issued for vehicles registered in certain periods. Not every car has one — if it exists, ask for it, as the authority may require it.
Where can the Polish inspection be seen?
The validity of the badanie techniczne is stamped into the dowód rejestracyjny. If valid, the registration procedure is enough.
