Registering a foreign truck
Registering light commercial and goods vehicles, above 3.5 tonnes too. Service fee from 59,990 Ft, above 3.5 tonnes 79,990 Ft — including customs and the tax office inspection.
How is registering a truck different?
In three ways. One: Above 3.5 tonnes a CoC cannot be obtained, so the technical data are evidenced by the registration certificate and the manufacturer’s documentation. Two: the inspection takes place at a different station on a different fee scale, and the vehicle’s dimensions call for a pre-arranged slot. Three: on commercial vehicles Tax office inspection also arises, because of company car tax and VAT reclaim.
The separate rules of the two categories
- A CoC can be obtained from the manufacturer if needed
- The same test-station rules as for passenger cars
- The identity check by displacement: 22,950 – 27,000 Ft
- Standard pair of plates: 11,475 Ft
- The duty is kW-based, the same 300–950 Ft/kW table
- no CoC can be obtained — the manufacturer documentation and the registration data prove the technical parameters
- A designated heavy-vehicle test station is needed, with a pre-arranged slot
- Checking the tachograph and speed limiter
- A tax office inspection is usually required
- International haulage needs separate permits — we help with that too
Buying as a company? Watch out for this
A company extract no older than 30 days is needed. This is the most common thing people have to supply later — get it in advance.
In an intra-EU acquisition the seller invoices without VAT and the Hungarian company self-assesses. This needs a valid EU VAT number on both sides.
For several vehicles at once we give an individual quote and arrange the inspections in one series of slots.

Frequently asked questions
Do you handle vehicles above 3.5 tonnes?
Yes. The service fee is 59,990 Ft under 3.5 tonnes and 79,990 Ft above — above that the inspection takes place at a designated heavy-vehicle station with a pre-arranged slot.
Why can no CoC be obtained above 3.5 tonnes?
Because the manufacturer’s declaration-of-conformity system covers passenger cars and vans up to 3.5 tonnes permissible gross weight. Above that, the manufacturer’s data sheet and the registration certificate serve as proof.
Is a tachograph check required?
Above 3.5 tonnes yes, it is part of the inspection. If the tachograph is uncalibrated or incomplete the inspection stalls — which is why we especially recommend a pre-check here.
How do we bring the vehicle home?
Under its own power on a temporary foreign plate, or on a Hungarian temporary plate. For a larger goods vehicle, trailering is usually uneconomical.
Do you have your own workshop for inspection preparation?
Yes, at our premises. We also repair trucks and buses; the price of a pre-inspection check is an individual quote depending on workshop capacity, with a labour rate of 9,000 Ft per hour.
A truck imported from outside the EU?
Then a customs procedure and a VPID application are needed too; the service fee is 59,990 Ft. Non-EU vehicles →
