What to watch out for when importing a Ukrainian car
Ukraine is not an EU member, so both a customs procedure and origin verification are required. The document is the Свідоцтво про реєстрацію транспортного засобу (техпаспорт), which also proves ownership. Many vehicles on the Ukrainian market are former US imports, often with a salvage history — checking the VIN is a mandatory step before buying here.
Which documents are needed for a car imported from Ukraine?

Is customs duty payable?
Yes. Ukraine is not an EU member, so both a customs procedure and origin verification are needed. In a dutiable case the burden is 39.7% (duty and VAT together). Registration tax and duty arise on top.
If the vehicle is originally a US version, the procedure takes an individual course: there is no CoC for it and technical compliance has to be proven separately. So send us the VIN before you buy, and we will tell you what to expect.
How much does it cost to register a car from Ukraine?
For an average 90 kW, five-year-old passenger car the basic official cost 150,000 – 210,000 Ft , depending on whether there is a valid foreign inspection.

Customs and origin verification
For this country the registration fee alone is not the whole picture, because it does not include the customs procedure. In a dutiable case the burden is 39.7% (customs duty and VAT together), and the official fee for origin verification is 14.715 Ft. The fee for the customs procedure depends on the details of the case; we can go through it precisely by phone.

How do I know whether a Ukrainian car is a US import?
From the first characters of the VIN: 1, 4 and 5 mean US-built, 2 means Canadian. Send us the VIN and we will check before you buy.

How long does registering a Ukrainian car take?
