What to watch out for when importing a Bulgarian car
Bulgaria is an EU member; there is no customs procedure. Bulgarian documents are in Cyrillic, and the registration certificate has two parts: the част I (small talon) is in the car, the част II (large talon) with the owner — registration needs both. Because of the Cyrillic script, the bilingual sales contract is especially important here.

Is customs duty payable?
No. Bulgaria is an EU member, so there is no customs procedure. Registration tax and transfer duty are still payable, though.
Bulgarian documents do not always state the environmental class (Euro number) unambiguously. If it cannot be read from the registration certificate, the CoC fills the gap — without it the calculator uses the higher amount.
How much does it cost to register a car from Bulgaria?
For an average 90 kW, five-year-old passenger car the basic official cost 150,000 – 210,000 Ft , depending on whether there is a valid foreign inspection.

Do the Bulgarian documents need a certified translation?
A bilingual sales contract avoids it in most cases. The official documents follow a uniform EU format, so their translation is usually not required.
Is част I enough?
No. Registration also needs the original част II (the large talon); that proves ownership.
Does it matter if the Bulgarian car was imported from elsewhere?
Yes, it is worth checking: West European imports are common on the Bulgarian market. The date of first registration determines both the depreciation of the registration tax and the vehicle’s history.
