What to watch out for when importing a Swedish car
Sweden is an EU member; there is no customs procedure. The document is the Registreringsbevis, split into del 1 and del 2 — the del 2 is the sale part, signed by the seller. With a Swedish car two things matter especially: underbody corrosion from winter salting, and making sure no outstanding fordonsskatt debt or loan remains on the vehicle in the Swedish register.

Is customs duty payable?
No. Sweden is an EU member, so there is no customs procedure. Registration tax and transfer duty are still payable, though.
The report of the Swedish besiktning (technical inspection) is a detailed and reliable source on the vehicle’s condition. If the inspection has lapsed, an individual approval procedure and an official technical inspection are required in Hungary.
How much does it cost to register a car from Sweden?
For an average 90 kW, five-year-old passenger car the basic official cost 150,000 – 210,000 Ft , depending on whether there is a valid foreign inspection.

What is del 2 for?
Registreringsbevis del 2 is the sale section: the seller signs it when transferring ownership. Hungarian registration requires the original.
Is corrosion a problem on a Swedish car?
Not inevitable, but because of winter road salt it is worth having the underbody checked. Corrosion can be grounds for failing the Hungarian inspection.
Can a debt remain on a Swedish car?
An outstanding loan or vehicle tax debt can remain in the Swedish register. Ask the seller for the register extract before you buy.
How long does registering a Swedish car take?
