Why you need a bilingual sales contract

When registering a vehicle imported from abroad, the Hungarian authority asks for a sales contract in Hungarian, or one with a Hungarian translation. A bilingual contract solves this in a single document: no official translation is needed, which saves you thousands of forints and several days.

The Finnish rekisteröintitodistus (registration certificate) alone does not contain everything the Hungarian authority asks about the sale — the bilingual contract fills that gap.

Which contract do you need?

The right contract depends on who is selling and who is buying. They all cost 999 Ft + VAT.

The wording follows the legal status of the parties — for companies and dealers the representation and warranty clauses differ too. Every version costs the same.

What the contract covers

  • the parties’ details in both languages
  • the vehicle’s identifiers — VIN, engine number, plate, type
  • purchase price and method of payment
  • the date the ownership passes
  • warranty and liability provisions
  • signature blocks for both parties

Is the rekisteröintitodistus needed alongside the contract?

Yes — the bilingual contract does not replace the original Finnish registration certificate; that must be presented too.

Will the government office accept this contract?

Yes. The whole point of the bilingual contract is that it can be submitted without a certified translation.

Is a certified translation needed too?

Not with a bilingual contract. If you only have a foreign-language contract, a certified translation is required.
